Design / Construction
en-ca Purple three piece day dress of wool with accents of stain, velvet and grosgrain ribbon. The bodice has a high neckline and collar with lappets covered in velvet. The same velvet is found on the hemline of the bodice. The waistline is at the natural waist and fitted. The bodice is full at the back created by inverted pleating. A flap pocket, also in velvet is found at the right and left back/side of the bodice. The centre front closure is 9 velvet covered round buttons. The bottom of the bodice is divided and folded back on itself and has been lined with velvet. Where the two triangles of velvet of this detail meet there is a decoration of grosgrain ribbon folded and fastened. The back of the bodice is decorated by a ruched trim that forms a V-shape meeting at the centre back of the waist. This same ruching also decorates the velvet cuff of the sleeves. The overskirt is draped and open in the centre front and the opening is edged with this same ruching. The polonaise style of the overskirt has small ribbon bow knots of a floral patterned ribbon decorating the back of the overskirt. The underskirt has a ruffled hem and insert of satin which shows through the inverted V-shape of the overskirt.
